People Power Party's Jang Dong-hyeok Accuses DP of Pressuring for Kim Yong's Nomination
Jang Dong-hyeok, leader of the People Power Party, raised suspicions on the 27th that the Democratic Party is pressuring for the nomination of Kim Yong, former deputy director of the party's research institute, questioning the background behind the party's advocacy for his candidacy. Speaking at a supreme council meeting held at the National Assembly on the 27th, Jang said, 'There are reports that about 60 Democratic Party lawmakers are arguing for the nomination of former deputy director Kim, who is implicated in the Daejang-dong case.'
Jang claimed that Kim's alleged crimes are directly linked to President Lee Jae-myung. He stated that the court has recognized the money Kim received as campaign funds for President Lee's presidential primary and admitted recorded conversations as evidence, adding that President Lee's trial could immediately resume if Kim were to speak out.
Kim has expressed his intention to run in a by-election for a parliamentary seat, despite having been found guilty up to the second trial for charges including violations of the political funds law. Jang warned that the public would judge the ruling party for being associated with individuals facing criminal charges.
