Progressive Party Rejects Democratic Party's Demand for Constituency Seat Concessions
The Democratic Party has effectively rejected the Progressive Party's request for concessions on some constituency seats for regional councilors in Ulsan, facing difficulties in unification negotiations. In response, a key Progressive Party official expressed frustration over the Democratic Party's lack of political capability, urging them to make a decision that strengthens their joint power for electoral alliances.
The Democratic Party, the Jo Guk Party, and the Progressive Party are currently undergoing unification procedures under the mediation of the 'Citizens' Council for Cleansing Corruption and Transforming Ulsan,' composed of 31 civic groups. They have agreed to complete the unification process for the Ulsan mayoral election, following policy debates, by the 13th of this month, before the candidate registration deadline for the June 3 local elections.
Negotiations concerning five district mayor positions and 19 regional council constituency seats are still ongoing, and the refusal to yield seats is expected to lead to further difficulties in the talks.
