Sen. Paul Continues Pressure on Former Director Fauci as Statute of Limitations Nears Expiration
U.S. Republican Senator Rand Paul has stated his intention to continue pressuring former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Anthony Fauci, as the statute of limitations for criminal charges related to alleged false testimony before Congress approaches. Paul pointed to the indictment of a key aide of former Director Fauci for allegedly concealing information and manipulating records related to the origins of COVID-19, expressing regret that Fauci himself may escape legal responsibility through a pardon.
After the statute of limitations expires on the 12th (local time), former Director Fauci will no longer face criminal penalties for his statements to Congress. However, Paul emphasized the impending deadline for criminal charges, stating, "The Department of Justice must indict former Director Fauci by the end of this month," despite the decision on a pardon.
Paul plans to host a whistleblower hearing in the Senate this week, two days after the statute of limitations expires, intending to continue the investigation into allegations of a 'COVID-19 cover-up.' He remarked, "I have done my job, I have investigated, and I have sent criminal referrals to the Department of Justice multiple times," adding that the decision on indictment now rests with the Justice Department, not Congress.
