Democratic Party Discovers Data Breach a Year Late; KISA Support Refused

The Democratic Party confirmed that the IDs, names, encrypted passwords, and email addresses of 17,088 members of its member community 'Blue Wave' were leaked, based on a tip from an external related agency the previous day.

The leak is presumed to have occurred last September, but the Democratic Party explained that they were unaware of the breach for nearly a year because no problems were detected during the verification process with the management firm and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).

On the 8th, the Democratic Party revealed that they had detected signs of anomalies last September and requested an inspection from the management firm, but received a reply stating there were 'no issues.' The party explained that while they also requested security inspection support from KISA at the time, they were unable to receive immediate assistance as the work overlapped with the response to a major leak at another organization.
