Trump Announces Role in Securing Release of 5 Prisoners Held in Belarus, Russia
Donald Trump, President of the United States, announced his involvement in securing the release of three Polish nationals and two Moldovan nationals who were detained in Belarus and Russia through diplomatic efforts.
Among those freed was Polish journalist Andrzej Poczobut, a Sakharov Prize laureate who was arrested in 2021. Reports indicate that the freed individuals also included Father Grzegorz Chmiel, a Polish Carmelite friar, and a Belarusian national who had collaborated with Polish intelligence agencies.
President Trump expressed his gratitude to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko for his cooperation. This development signifies the ongoing diplomatic efforts by the Donald Trump administration to secure the release of detained foreign nationals.
