Seoul Mayor Candidate Oh Se-hoon Blames Hyundai E&C for GTX-A Rebar Omissions
Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party candidate for Seoul Mayor, has claimed that the missing rebar issue in the Samsung Station section of the Great Train Express (GTX)-A line is the fault of the construction company, Hyundai Engineering & Construction. The GTX-A line is a major project aimed at improving transportation convenience for residents in the Seoul metropolitan area.
Candidate Oh criticized the camp of his rival, Jung Won-oh of the Democratic Party, for attempting to politicize the issue. Oh made these remarks on the 17th, responding to reporters' questions after announcing his real estate pledges at his campaign office in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Earlier, on the 15th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport confirmed construction errors in the GTX-A Samsung Station section and announced an audit involving the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Korea National Railway. Jung's camp had alleged that the construction company was aware of the error for six months but reported it late to the Seoul city government, raising suspicions of concealment and omission by the city. In response, the Seoul city government released detailed timelines, explaining that it had immediately conducted safety checks and reviewed reinforcement methods.
