Jeonbuk Holds 46th May 18th Commemoration, Pledges to Carry Forward Spirit of Democratization
A commemoration ceremony for the 46th May 18th Democratization Movement was held in Jeonbuk Province. At the event, participants pledged to carry forward the spirit of those who sacrificed for democracy.
At the ceremony, jointly organized by the May 18th Uprising Commemoration Jeonbuk Committee and the Jeonbuk May Comrades Association, Jeonbuk Province Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs Kim Jong-hoon stated, "The spirit of May must become a milestone that helps overcome today's crises and move towards a better future," and added, "Jeonbuk Province will do its utmost to fully preserve and inherit the values of the democratization movement."
The memorial service, held at Jeonbuk National University, the alma mater of late activist Lee Se-jong, served as an occasion to reflect on the historical significance of the May 18th Democratization Movement. A May 18th-related photo exhibition was also held concurrently. Throughout the Jeonbuk region, various events including a May 18th photo exhibition, school-specific memorial ceremonies, and academic conferences are being held to commemorate the May 18th Democratization Movement.
