'Mouth-Covered' Protester Against Former President Yoon Suk-yeol Runs for Daejeon District Council Seat
Shin Min-ki, the individual whose mouth was covered while attempting to protest former President Yoon Suk-yeol at a Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) graduation ceremony, has announced his candidacy for the Yuseong-gu District Council election in Daejeon. Shin, a candidate for the Justice Party, revealed his intention to run in a text message sent to reporters on the 20th.
Shin stated, "I now wish to share the courage I showed against a tyrannical president with the residents of Yuseong-gu," and "I will always be a district councilor on the side of the residents, and outspoken even in front of the president."
He attended the 2024 KAIST degree conferment ceremony as a graduate and protested the government's cuts to research and development budgets. He was subsequently escorted out after presidential security guards covered his mouth and restrained him.
