Qualcomm to Acquire AI Startup Moduler for $4 Billion to Boost Capabilities

Qualcomm is set to acquire startup Moduler for approximately $4 billion to strengthen its AI software capabilities. This acquisition will enable Qualcomm to run AI models on different chips without separate coding. With the acquisition of Moduler, Qualcomm will directly compete with NVIDIA's CUDA platform, which ties millions of developers to NVIDIA chips.

Qualcomm will conduct the transaction entirely as a stock deal, issuing up to 19.2 million shares of common stock to Moduler's shareholders.

Qualcomm is focusing on establishing a foothold in the data center market in response to the surge in generative AI demand. This acquisition is expected to accelerate business diversification by reducing its reliance on smartphone chips.
