[Market Insight] Waves of 'Polarization': Wall Street Rides the Tide, K-Growth Left in the Wake... Defense Mechanisms of the AI Value Portfolio

AI Value Investment Portfolio Performance Chart

Only after closing the session today was it reconfirmed that market sentiment has starkly diverged. Wall Street rode the explosive momentum of AI semiconductors to record a 'super-strong' session, catching the high tide, while Seoul's KOSPI and KOSDAQ showed 'holes' under the pressure of foreign capital outflows and exchange rate volatility. It was a day where the term 'polarization (K-Shaping)' felt more real than reality itself. Amidst this turbulent market, the 'AI Value Investment Portfolio,' which uses valuation and growth potential as its yardstick, continued its steady trajectory, recording a cumulative return of approximately 28.6%. However, the key issue for today has emerged as how to manage the increased portfolio volatility and profit-taking zones following the recent surge in the semiconductor sector.

Looking at the indicators, one can feel the heat of Wall Street. The Nasdaq Composite surged 2.78%, eyeing the 25,000 mark, while Nasdaq 100 futures jumped a whopping 3.86%. The vanguard of this rise was undoubtedly semiconductors. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) soared more than 8% in a single day, eyeing an all-time high. This is not unrelated to the trends led by key portfolio holdings like NVIDIA (NVDA) and Broadcom (AVGO). In contrast, the domestic market failed to avoid the weakness of a sideways correction, with KOSPI falling 1.23% and KOSDAQ dropping 2.70%. However, the fact that the won-dollar exchange rate fell 1.46% could act as a positive factor for export-driven AI-related stocks.

Looking at asset trends, the inflection point this portfolio experienced over the past few days is clear. After peaking at $15,505 (approx. 21 million won) on the 24th, the scale shrank to $12,859 today following a four-day decline. This appears to be less a loss from falling stock prices and more the result of hoarding cash assets through selling while forming a high point. In effect, risk management has been initiated to 'not put all eggs in one basket' by utilizing the rapid rise of high-growth sectors.

Holding Diagnosis: Semiconductors 'Paying the Price for Growth,' Energy 'Shining with Value Appeal'

Asset Qty Purchase Price Current Price PER PEG
NVIDIA (NVDA) 25.75 $183.15 $190.01 29.1 0.54
AMD 7.17 $198.62 $429.56 142.7 1.16
Micron (MU) 0.25 $996.00 $739.00 16.7 0.13
Broadcom (AVGO) 5.67 $326.03 $370.32 61.7 0.43
Amazon (AMZN) 1.95 $208.39 $226.65 27.1 1.24
Meta (META) 0.75 $653.56 $585.61 21.6 0.87
TQQQ 2.00 $76.34 $57.75 29.6 1.36
SOXL 17.36 $67.30 $91.99 15.6 0.61

The most noticeable trend among holdings is AMD's strength. It is currently trading at $429.56, valued at more than double its purchase price. However, given its PER of 142.7 and PEG of 1.16, analysts suggest that future high growth is already priced in. Conversely, Micron (MU) is solidifying its image as an attractive 'value stock' from a long-term perspective, showing surprisingly undervalued indicators with a PER of 16.7 and a PEG of 0.13 despite recent price adjustments. NVIDIA and Broadcom also suggest that current high stock prices are moving within a range that fully accounts for earnings growth driven by the AI boom, as their PEG remains around the 0.5 level despite somewhat high PERs.

Trading Review: Masters of 'Sector Rotation'

Date Type Asset Qty Price Key Reason
2026-07-24 Buy SOXL 1.07 $157.50 Undervaluation (PER) and PEG appeal of semiconductor sector; expectation of maximizing leveraged returns
2026-07-24 Sell META 0.13 $606.10 Intensifying ad market competition and delayed AI monetization concerns; sector rotation
2026-07-24 Sell TQQQ 0.86 $66.30 Semiconductor (SOXL) valuation superiority over Nasdaq; reallocation due to weakening momentum
2026-07-10 Buy TQQQ 2.86 $76.34 Continued strength in tech mega-caps; aggressive capture of Nasdaq rise
2026-06-26 Buy NVDA 1.28 $195.74 Surge in AI chip demand and valuation appeal due to low PEG ratio

The most recent trading history demonstrates the portfolio manager's adept 'sector rotation' skills. On the 24th, the portfolio reduced or sold off its entire position in Meta (META) and TQQQ (Nasdaq 3x Leverage). Specifically for Meta, despite remaining upside potential, the manager boldly cleared a portion, judging intensifying ad market competition and delayed AI monetization as realistic risks. Instead, the funds were concentrated in SOXL (Semiconductor 3x Leverage). This was aggressive fund deployment based on the judgment that 'semiconductor sector valuations are more attractive than the broader Nasdaq.' Additionally, buying additional NVIDIA on the 26th of last month to ride the surge in AI chip demand deserves high marks. Conversely, it cannot be ruled out that there was some volatility in the process of chasing short-term momentum, such as buying TQQQ in early July only to sell it again.

Outlook: Capturing 'Undervalued Growth Stocks' Above the Waves of Volatility

For the time being, the market will likely swing around two axes: 'US AI semiconductor supremacy' and 'domestic valuation disconnect'. Today's strength in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq is interpreted as the result of resolving policy uncertainty at the end of the Biden administration and expectations for interest rate relief. However, the VIX dropping back below the 17 line signifies that the market is prepared to take on risk. The key is 'balance between value and growth.' This portfolio aims to maintain health by boldly liquidating assets that have become too overvalued via PEG indicators, rather than resting on past returns. In the next session, it is expected that aggressive bets will be placed on semiconductor materials or AI platform-related stocks that remain undervalued, using the cash secured from recent profit-taking.
