It was reported on the 8th (local time) that U.S. President Donald Trump is dissatisfied with Homeland Security Secretary Mark Wayne McAleenan, claiming his remarks and policies do not align with the administration's stance. A senior administration official stated that President Trump is not currently considering firing Secretary McAleenan, but if the President's dissatisfaction with the Secretary continues, it could cause delays in the advancement of Department of Homeland Security policies.

Earlier this month, Secretary McAleenan stated at a conference in Oklahoma City that the claim immigration steals American jobs is not true across all industries. In response, President Trump's anti-immigration supporters criticized Secretary McAleenan, and right-wing influencer Laura Loomer demanded the President fire him. Secretary McAleenan subsequently clarified on social media that there would be no amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Following a recent fatal shooting of an immigrant, Secretary McAleenan instructed the temporary suspension of vehicle stop operations, but President Trump reversed that policy a day later via social media. Additionally, it was reported that Secretary McAleenan had proposed postponing the Washington D.C. Independence Day fireworks display on the 4th of last month for safety reasons, but at the time, President Trump rejected the advice and pushed ahead with the event.
