Kim Min-seok Takes 1st Place... 'Super Week' in Honam and Metropolitan Regions Emerges as Key Variable

In the second week of the Democratic Party's primary tour, candidate Kim Min-seok overtook candidate Jeong Cheong-rae to take first place. On August 9, 2026, the results of the voting by eligible party members in Gangwon and Daegu/North Gyeongsang provinces were announced. According to the combined results for these regions, Kim Min-seok secured 48.54% of the vote, leading Jeong Cheong-rae (44.40%).

The cumulative results for the Supreme Council member eligible member voting are in the following order: Choi Min-hee, Park Seon-won, Han Min-soo, Seo Mi-hwa, and Kim Yong.

Voting results for the Honam and Seoul metropolitan areas, which account for 71.4% of the total electorate, will be announced on the 15th and 16th. Results for South Jeolla, Gwangju, and North Jeolla will be released on the 15th, followed by Gyeonggi and Seoul on the 16th. These results are expected to determine the outcome of the race for first place in the convention, which runs until August 17.
