Man in His 50s Arrested for Exposing Himself to Women on Hiking Trail in Daejeon

A man in his 50s accused of public indecency for exposing himself to women, including high school girls, near a hiking trail and a girls' high school in Daejeon has been arrested by police and is under investigation.

According to police, Mr. A (56) is suspected of appearing mid-month at a hiking trail on Dosol Mountain in Seo-gu, Daejeon and a nearby girls' high school, with his face covered by a balaclava, mask, and hat, exposing himself to high school girls and female hikers before fleeing. The investigation found that Mr. A mainly targeted spots without CCTV, committing the acts and escaping within a short time, and evaded pursuit by changing clothes in the mountains while keeping his face covered.

Police launched an investigation after receiving emergency (112) reports related to the flasher on April 26, but had difficulty identifying the suspect. They formed a special investigation team for public indecency cases, mobilizing some 100 personnel and thoroughly examining all 63 entrances and exits to Dosol Mountain as well as 98 related CCTV cameras. After conducting drone patrols and undercover surveillance, police arrested Mr. A near his residence in Dong-gu, Daejeon at 2:30 p.m. on the 23rd.

Police view it as a serious matter that Mr. A targeted minors, including high school girls, and plan to apply additional charges of violating the Child Welfare Act to the public indecency charges when seeking an arrest warrant. A police official said, "(Mr. A) has admitted to the recent crimes but is denying the April incidents," adding, "We are investigating Mr. A regarding the April crimes and whether he committed additional offenses."
