Trump Predicts Oil Prices Will Plunge If US Wins War Against Iran
[DURANT=AP/Newsis] According to CBS News and other foreign media, U.S. President Donald Trump, while visiting a Peterbilt truck plant in Denton, Texas, on the 1st (local time), vowed to win the war against Iran right after the November midterm elections, or even before then. "I think we're going to win right after the election," Trump said, adding that "it could be before the election." He went on to claim that Iran was "ready to collapse," but did not present specific conditions or a timeline for ending the war.
President Trump said Iran's navy and air force had been virtually destroyed, and that the country had lost its air defense capabilities and weapons production base. He expressed confidence that the remaining missiles could be countered by the United States, emphasizing the scale of the damage by saying, "Even if we pulled out tomorrow, it would take Iran years to recover from the damage we have inflicted."
In response to criticism that the war has lasted longer than the two to three weeks he initially mentioned, Trump explained that the goal he had promised to achieve within that short period was eliminating Iran's nuclear capabilities, and described the subsequent military activity as follow-up mop-up operations.
President Trump expressed confidence that oil prices and U.S. energy prices would fall sharply as soon as the war ends. At a rally in Alabama on the night of the 2nd, he reiterated that the war with Iran would end soon, most likely right after the midterm elections.
