Identity Fraud Targeting Minors Surges Around Yeongtong Station

Reports have been received that fraud involving borrowing or stealing minors' IDs to extort money is occurring intensively around Yeongtong Station in Suwon. On October 28, 2026, a complaint was filed under the title 'Completely Toyed With by Insurance Company Loss Adjusters.'

The report was submitted through CBC News' reader tip board. The board operates a procedure in which the assigned reporter requests additional materials after a tip is received. In fact, additional material requests were confirmed to have been used in past tip cases such as those from Kim Ah-young and Yoo Seung-hyun. This identity fraud tip likewise went through the assigned reporter's additional verification process, as with other complaint cases. Follow-up verification is underway.

This tip is significant in that victim complaints previously scattered individually have now been identified as a single regional pattern. It has not been confirmed whether the figure of 24 minor victims represents a count at a specific point in time or a cumulative total. The tip was made public in early November. Whether investigative authorities and local governments have launched investigations into the reported matter, and their outcomes, have not been confirmed.
