US House Rejects Bill to Limit President Trump's War Powers on Iran
The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday rejected an attempt to limit President Donald Trump's war powers regarding Iran, by a vote of 213 to 214. The resolution, introduced by Rep. James Max (D-), stipulated that President Trump must end hostilities with Iran without separate congressional approval. In the vote, the only Democrat to side with Republicans and vote against the resolution was Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine), while the sole Republican to support the war powers resolution was Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.).
Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio) abstained. With this vote, Republicans opposed Democrats' campaign to strengthen congressional oversight of the Trump administration's military operations.
President Trump predicted the Middle East conflict would soon conclude. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley warned Iran's military leadership that they could not withstand U.S. military might. CENTCOM reported that 13 vessels had turned back from Iranian ports.
