Six U.S. Military Veterans in Congress Challenge Trump's Authority on Iran Military Operations

Six Democratic lawmakers in the U.S. Congress have moved to curb President Donald Trump's authority to conduct military operations against Iran. They argue that the President's decision to authorize military action without congressional approval constitutes an abuse of constitutional power, urging adherence to proper procedures. The lawmakers contend that the Trump administration's military operations in Iran lack a sufficient legal basis to proceed without congressional consent.

The lawmakers stressed that soldiers are simply following orders, framing the issue as a fundamental debate over whether U.S. troops should be stationed in Iran. This stance echoes their own remarks made months earlier, when six lawmakers with military backgrounds urged service members to disregard unconstitutional directives.

At the time, Senator Elissa Slotkin stated, "Illegal orders must be refused."
