President Lee Jae-myung Emphasizes Responsibility to 'All Citizens'
President Lee Jae-myung has conveyed a message that the ruling party must bear infinite responsibility for outcomes, directed not at 'our camp' but at 'all citizens.' The President shared this sentiment on his social media account X (formerly Twitter) on the 13th, in a post titled 'Ruling and Opposition Parties, and Political Responsibility.'
The President emphasized that the ruling party, with the power it holds, must take responsibility for the nation's future and the lives of all its people, focusing on the 'language of responsibility' rather than the language of conviction. He added that for politicians, a 'responsibility ethic' that anticipates and takes responsibility for outcomes is more crucial than a 'conviction ethic' that solely prioritizes good intentions.
Citing German sociologist Max Weber, President Lee outlined the qualities of a politician as passion for the cause rather than self-interest, infinite responsibility for outcomes, and a sense of balance between reality and ideals. He pointed out that if politics ignores the constraints of reality and human limitations and insists solely on ideals, it falls into self-righteousness and factional logic. Conversely, if ideals are lost, it devolves into mere power maintenance. He stated that to change reality, a sense of balance that coldly observes reality while not forgetting values and aspirations is essential.
At the end of his post, the President said, 'The fate of this nation and the lives of 52 million citizens rest in our hands right now,' urging, 'Let us look bigger, wider, farther, and walk together with more of our people.'
