Audit Office Only Partially Grants Parental Leave to Auditor A, Who Was Charged over West Sea Official Shooting

On the 18th, the Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI) effectively rejected Auditor A's application for parental leave—auditor A had been charged with leaking military secrets related to the shooting of a civil official in the West Sea—by deciding to approve only part of the request.

By resolving to grant only a portion of the application, the BAI concluded administrative procedures that substantially limit the leave period of an employee who is the subject of a criminal complaint.

Auditor A had been on study leave in the UK under the government's overseas long-term training program for public officials and applied for an additional six months of parental leave ahead of his return to Korea. According to the BAI and political circles, this decision on parental leave is characterized by its timing, as it coincides with the charges against Auditor A regarding the alleged leak of military secrets related to the West Sea official shooting.
