The Standard for Robots Is No Longer How They Walk, but Where They Work

The benchmark for robots is no longer how they walk, but where they work. Attention in the robotics industry is shifting from 'robots that move' to 'robots that work in real workplaces.' This shift was evident at 'RoboWorld 2026,' held June 4-7 at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. The event drew 402 companies from 17 countries, filling a record 1,198 booths, and robots that autonomously perceive their surroundings, make judgments, and act accordingly emerged as the exhibition's central theme.

Companies are putting mass production and field deployment ahead of mere demonstrations. Rainbow Robotics showcased its wheeled industrial dual-arm robot 'RB-Y2' front and center, announcing that it is pursuing design improvements for mass production and safety certification procedures with the goal of deployment in manufacturing and logistics sites. This is an era when real-world deployment speaks louder than potential. Cases of actual field use have already emerged. DEEP Robotics presented 'Deeden Spider,' a quadruped walking robot with magnetic feet that climbs up and down steel walls. The company explained that the robot has already been supplied to a domestic shipbuilder and is in actual use on site.

Hands-on programs have also expanded public access. AI Robotics (AIL), a physical AI company developing robots that autonomously perceive and respond to their environment, jointly exhibited with AIL Robotics at RoboWorld 2026, staging K-POP dance performances by its humanoid robots 'AIL Bot H2' and 'Y1.' Visitors also took part in robot-control experiences using VR equipment.

In the end, the standard for evaluating robots is shifting from claims of possibility—'it can do this'—to facts about where and what a robot is actually doing. Track records of repeated performance in real workplaces, rather than demo videos, are becoming the basis for evaluation.
