Trump Administration Launches Medicaid Fraud Probe in 5 States
The Trump administration has launched audits in five states to crack down on fraud, waste, and abuse in Medicaid, the U.S. government health insurance program for low-income individuals. The audits target Minnesota, California, Florida, New York, and Maine, a move that comes in response to serious cases, including a large-scale fraud incident in Minnesota.
Dr. Oz is targeting Medicaid and hospice-related fraud, as well as fraud involving durable medical equipment (DME). In the Los Angeles area, operations of 400 hospices have been suspended, and allegations of Cuban government involvement have emerged in South Florida.
The Trump administration is expanding its anti-fraud efforts in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Task Force, led by Vice President JD Vance. The task force announced a nationwide moratorium on durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS) vendors in February. The Trump administration is pursuing its crackdown on Medicaid-related corruption as a measure to ensure national security and fiscal soundness.
