Jang Dong-hyuk: Party Members Will Decide My Future

Jang Dong-hyuk, the leader of the People Power Party (PPP), returned to party duties six days after being discharged from the hospital due to deteriorating health. He stated, "The party's owners are the party members, and my future is a matter for the party members to decide."

He argued, "Our party is already struggling to fight the Lee Jae-myung administration and is instead exhausting its strength on pointless conflicts. The Democratic Party has lost its way, and the Lee Jae-myung administration has passed its dead point. If we do not unite and fight now, public support will once again turn away from our party."

Regarding the special committee for state audits, which he monitored from his hospital bed, he evaluated it as "still arrogant and irresponsible," adding, "Ultimately, there is no other path but a special prosecutor investigation and by-elections."

Furthermore, concerning the 'Olympic Park blockade protest,' he pointed out, "Many young people and citizens are purely calling for the restoration of their right to participate in politics, but slogans and flags bearing the political objectives of specific forces are diminishing the momentum of resistance and hindering citizen mobilization. These are not protesters."

Meanwhile, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, in a lecture titled 'Restoration of Conservative Values and the Future,' commented on the issue of Leader Jang's future, stating, "Is a party leader really necessary? We should transform into a party centered around the National Assembly," adding that "it is a time for senior lawmakers to play a role."

Jung Jeong-sik, the PPP floor leader, said, "The party will quickly find stability if the controversy over Leader Jang's resignation is resolved before next February."
