KCSC Chief: Demanding Apology 'A Right and a Responsibility'
Kim Jong-chol, Chairman of the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC), described President Lee Jae-myung's demand for an apology from SBS's "Unanswered Questions" (Gue-al) as 'a right and a responsibility.' Kim, responding to a question from People Power Party lawmaker Park Choong-heon during a plenary session of the National Assembly's Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee on the 28th, explained that he was speaking about the ethical duties of journalism from the perspective of the president, the public, and victims. He added that it is also a responsibility for public officials to secure credibility.
Meanwhile, Kim stated that the Broadcasting and Communications Commission will appropriately review the allegation of 'election interference' by the opposition party concerning remarks targeting People Power Party Daegu mayoral candidate Chu Kyung-ho in the closing segment of MBC Newsdesk on the 26th.
At the time, MBC Newsdesk broadcasted, "During the December 3rd emergency martial law, while the entire nation anxiously awaited the National Assembly's resolution to lift martial law, the stance shown by Chu Kyung-ho, then the People Power Party floor leader, was as inappropriate as martial law itself."
