Another oil slick has been confirmed in waters near Iran. As of 11 a.m. local time, a second oil slick, estimated to be between 12 and 20 square kilometers, was discovered near Iran's Hark Island, a major oil export region.

Previously, on May 8, an oil spill estimated to cover about 65 square kilometers, believed to be crude oil, was confirmed. According to maritime intelligence firm Windward AI, the larger slick identified on May 8 spans approximately 65 square kilometers and is thought to be crude oil. This slick is currently drifting towards Saudi Arabian waters.

UN official Dr. Kaveh Madani noted that the oil slick is moving southwest of the island. The pollution has the potential to move through Qatar's economic waters and toward areas near the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
