AI Value Investing Holds Steady Amid Sharp Market Plunge, Investment Report Maintains +13% Returns

Four Days After the Korean Market Was Cut in Half, Global Markets Stare at a 'Collapsed Trigger'

As the KOSPI struggles around the 5,000 mark after a steep 6% plunge, the "AI Value Investing Portfolio" also saw its assets plummet from $13,405 to $11,303 over five days. Even so, the portfolio maintains a +13% return relative to initial capital — a testament to how the principle of 'accumulating stakes in undervalued assets' remained unshaken even during a sharp selloff.

AI Value Investing Portfolio performance chart

The Weight of the Plunge and Signs of a Rebound

The portfolio peaked at $13,405 on November 4, then shed nearly $2,100 in just three days. With multiple semiconductor leveraged products among its holdings, a decline steeper than the market average is an unavoidable price of that structure. That said, the volatility index (VIX) fell 9% to retreat into the mid-25s, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index surged 4.2%, and Nasdaq 100 futures were trending higher — all suggesting that panic may have peaked. The correction triggered by regulatory concerns appears to be settling in an orderly fashion.

Holdings Check — Collapsed Valuations, Growth Intact

Key holdings still look attractive on the metrics. Micron's earnings per share reach $74, yet the market is assigning it a price-to-earnings multiple below 9x, and its price/earnings-to-growth ratio (PEG) of 0.16 signals an extremely undervalued zone. NVIDIA and Broadcom lead to the same conclusion, with growth-adjusted valuations of 0.24 and 0.32, respectively. By contrast, AMD trades at a P/E of 86x — a burdensome level even factoring in its growth rate — while Intel's ongoing losses make it hard to build a buy case on the numbers alone. The deeper the downturn, the more these metric gaps separate 'average returns' from 'below-average returns.'

Trade Review — Who's Selling and Who's Buying

Recent trading has followed a consistent pattern. After NVIDIA's weighting exceeded 38% in mid-October, the portfolio trimmed portions of the position on every trade to lock in cash, using those proceeds to buy Micron — down seven sessions in a row — in six separate tranches. AMD was also partially cashed out on November 6, even as its gains surpassed 100%. This is not the simple profit-taking of dumping a rising stock outright, but classic rebalancing: reducing an overheated single-stock concentration and reallocating capital toward assets undervalued relative to their growth. Deploying cash immediately into bargain purchases during a broad downturn — rather than hoarding it — reflects a conviction-driven response.

Market Outlook — The Correction Nears Its End, the Thesis Holds

The KOSPI has fallen more than 6% in a short span, entering technically oversold territory, but the preemptive rebound in U.S. semiconductor indexes and Nasdaq futures points to a recovery in global risk appetite. Still, with the U.S. 10-year yield elevated at 4.86% and the won/dollar exchange rate climbing into the 1,363 range, the Korean market's recovery could be slow. This portfolio's weighting toward low growth-adjusted valuations gives it a relatively favorable structure for a rebound after a sharp selloff. If a second wave of correction arrives, undervalued names like Micron and TSM will once again become buying opportunities. What's needed now is not boldness, but the tenacity to keep buying according to plan.
